The cause of death for Celeste Rivas Hernandez had been determined months before its public release, the medical examiner said, as the US singer faces first-degree murder charges.
Cause of death disclosed
The medical examiner has ruled that Celeste Rivas Hernandez, 14, died of multiple injuries, months after her body was found in the car of US singer D4vd. The examiner said the cause of death had been determined well before its release but was blocked from being made public.
Charges and court proceedings
D4vd, whose legal name is David Anthony Burke, has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with Hernandez's death. Prosecutors have said the charges carry penalties that could include life without parole or the death penalty. Burke has pleaded not guilty. Prosecutors also said that if convicted, he could face life in prison given the nature of the case.
Additional allegations
Prosecutors have alleged that Burke purchased tools online to dispose of Hernandez's body. Separately, prosecutors said Burke had a significant amount of child sexual abuse material in his possession at the time of his arrest.
Defence position
Burke's attorneys have maintained his innocence and said they would vigorously defend him.
