The cause of death for Celeste Rivas Hernandez, found dead in the US singer's car, was determined months ago but withheld pending legal proceedings, the medical examiner said.

Cause of death released

A medical examiner has ruled that Celeste Rivas Hernandez, 14, died of multiple injuries, authorities confirmed after the finding had been blocked from public release for months.

The teenager was found dead inside a vehicle belonging to David Anthony Burke, who performs under the name D4vd, a TikTok-originated artist who built a following before his arrest.

Charges and court proceedings

Burke has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with Rivas Hernandez's death. Prosecutors said the charges carry penalties that could include life without parole or the death penalty.

He has pleaded not guilty. Prosecutors said the nature of the case means Burke could face life in prison if convicted.

Burke's attorneys have maintained his innocence and said they will "vigorously defend" him.

Additional allegations

Prosecutors have alleged that Burke purchased tools online to dispose of the teenager's body. Separately, prosecutors said Burke had a "significant amount" of child sexual abuse material in his possession at the time of his arrest.

The cause of death had been determined months before its public release, the medical examiner said, but had been blocked from disclosure during the legal process.
